Staycations are the new way to vacation! But what exactly is a staycation, and how is it different from a vacation?

Simply put, a staycation is a vacation where you stay at or close to home. For some people, that means staying in and enjoying their local vicinity during their vacation time. For others, a staycation includes short trips around your home turf, not more than a two-hour drive, which often can include overnight stays.

As the price of gas has almost tripled across the country and thousands of flights keep getting cancelled, it’s probably safe to say that there’s been a huge increase in people deciding it’s easier, cheaper, and less stressful to do a staycation this summer.

The Best Things About Staycations

You don’t have to lose vacation time from your job to travel – It can feel like such a waste of vacation days when the first and last days of your trip are entirely taken up with travel. Staying close to home gives you those two extra days of enjoyable time.

You can bring your pets – Staycations are the best possible way for you and your furry family members to travel and see the world together. They’re also in heaven when they can stick their heads out the car window while you’re going 80 mph on the highway.

No jet lag – Going to Europe, especially from the west coast, means that might be dragging a few days after you land. And just when you get over it and have acclimated, it’s time to come home and be out of kilter for another couple of days.

Supporting your local economy – Staying closer to home means you can spend time and money at local attractions, cafes, bars, restaurants, hotels, events, and support local businesses.

Better for the environment – We can’t ignore the impact of all those long-distance flights that deliver us to our favorite international destinations. If you’re looking to cut down on your carbon footprint, a staycation is a great place to start and bonus points if you manage to take public transport all or part of the way.

So, whatever you are planning for the rest of this summer, there is no question that we all need a break from our normal routine to keep ourselves healthy and refreshed.

Have a wonderful Staycation and don’t worry about my souvenir!
