Does it help or hurt one’s credit career when being assigned to a different position within the company?

I’ve been hearing from some credit professionals informing me they have been assigned to take over another department, letting me know who to contact in the future. Depending on the size, product or service, and other factors, a few of the credit professionals have been assigned to areas that they have no direct experience. At first blush, it seems for example that a credit manager being assigned to manufacturing would be a complete mismatch. However, depending on the issues, sometimes another set of eyes can see certain problems where those who have been in the role for a long time can’t.

One specific example is where a credit manager completely rationalized the credit department over a two-year period making it a very cost-effective area of the company. With all the technological changes and insight gained from that accomplishment, the president of the company realized that what was accomplished in one department could be very applicable to another.

So with the later in mind, it’s really not too far-fetched that credit professionals who have been creative, insightful, and highly productive in their own area could bring those same attributes to other areas of their organization as well.

After making your choice and seeing the results, I’d love to hear from you regarding any thoughts or ideas you may have on this poll accordingly.
